The pieces in the In Orbit series act as satellites around the quilt Yes, And. Having broken out of the gravitational pull of traditional quilting, each sculpture states its independence, ethereally hovering away from the wall in apocryphal almost-stasis. “Almost” because while the loose fringe introduces the opportunity for motion, it primarily functions as a reflection of the compositions, pulled downward by gravity and extended like shadows. Each sculpture has an individual personality. As a whole, they commemorate the idea of quilts as abstractly as they commemorate the idea of the people who may have worn these shirts.
