Hand dyed and printed fabric, tassels, piping, machine pieced, hand quilted. 45″ x 45″, 2020.

This is the quilt I want to give to every new baby that comes into my life. An all seeing eye for guidance and protection, plus the eyes of your community and the world surrounding you on the backing. It represents care and hope and blessing and love. Plus a little flamboyance with the tassels to add a sense of ceremony and celebration. But “I have my eye on you” sound like both a promise and a threat, echoing the mixed blessing and curse that oversight entails. The pressure of expectation. Equal parts comforting and cozy, this quilt is the gift of a spinster aunt, a queer foremother, a witch.
