At some point during puberty, people learn they “aren’t good enough” at drawing. I’ve watched it happen in real time to campers: one summer their imaginations run rampant on paper but the next it’s hard to even get them to pick up a pencil. It’s “not realistic enough”, “not as good as someone else’s”, they’re “just not an artist.” Well I call bullshit. Who says that realism is the best and only goal of drawing? By giving yourself permission to play with alternative techniques like blind contour drawings, anyone at any age can reconnect with that feeling of childhood abandon and can explore how their bodies see themselves and others. Participants of this activity will become instant artists and subjects in the exhibition, rendered in brilliant color.
